— The First Step Toward Healing: Saying the Truth Out Loud
Scripture: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32
There comes a moment in every recovery journey when the truth becomes too heavy to keep inside. We’ve tried hiding it. We’ve tried managing it. We’ve tried pretending it’s not as bad as it is. But the truth has a way of rising to the surface — not to condemn us, but to free us.
Jesus said that truth leads to freedom. Not comfort. Not ease. Freedom. And freedom always begins with honesty.
For many of us, the hardest part isn’t admitting the truth to others — it’s admitting it to ourselves. We fear what it might mean. We fear what people will think. We fear that God will finally give up on us.
But here’s the miracle: when we finally speak the truth out loud, Jesus doesn’t step back. He steps closer.
He meets us in the exact place we’ve been avoiding. He doesn’t shame us. He doesn’t scold us. He simply says, “I can heal this. Let Me walk with you.”
Recovery begins when we stop running from the truth and start walking with Jesus into the light. The truth may feel heavy, but grace is stronger. And the moment we speak it, the chains begin to loosen.
A prayer for today: Lord, give me the courage to face the truth about my life. Meet me in the places I’ve been afraid to look. Lead me into freedom, one honest step at a time. Amen.
